My Te awamutu holiday

My Te awamutu holiday

On Monday the first week of the holidays we departed Glen eden and set off for Te awamutu .Why you may ask well all we wanted to do was go and meet our Grandpa so he has some more company .

After about half an hour we arrived at our first stop and that was a gas station somewhere in Auckland .We got some gas and we also ate a couple of lollies ,so far it was a good trip .For some company I bought along with me a fidget spinner and a rubber mouse I played with them for a while and then I got bored so I tried to get some sleep, I wasn’t even close to getting asleep, even though there was an hour and a half before we got there, it was probably because it was been quite rickety.

Once we got to Grandpa’s place it was about 9:30 pm so got into my pajamas and went to sleep. In the morning I woke up early but I stayed in bed for about an hour and then I got into fresh clothing.

My family

My family

In my family there are 7 children and my parents and that makes 9 people altogether 5 boys and 4 girls and I share a room and you know that never goes especially if they have a tantrum twice a month and we don’t bother to clean his mess up until it's super messy and it takes a long  long time ( 1 hour actually ) and once we finish I just lie down in my bed and relax for a bit ( 2 hours is a bit ) hope you enjoyed my story. : )

Komodo dragon

Komodo dragon

Hello everyone, do you know what the largest lizard on the planet is, do you know what it eats, how large it is because I am going to answer these questions and tell you some interesting facts at the same time .

The komodo dragon lives in the Lesser Sunder islands on the coast of Indonesia or at the komodo islands also in the coast of Indonesia .

The komodo dragons diet is birds, bird eggs, other reptiles and some mammals like deer and goats .They find their prey by sniffing for them and then they strike by biting the prey’s leg if it is a large animal .

The komodo dragon was discovered somewhere in between 1910 and 1912 but it is unknown .It was said that a pilot crashed after WW1 and swam to the komodo islands and found the komodo dragon, but we are unsure if this is really true .

You may be asking me if the komodo dragon is dangerous, it is. It is a carnivore as I said when I talked about the komodo dragons diet so do not come near if this ferocious lizard is hungry it may be better just to stay where you are, trust me .
Right now I am going to tell you what this dangerous lizard weighs and how long it is. The komodo dragon reaches up to 3.15 meters long and an average of 70kg but at the most 165kg wow! The komodo dragons sharp teeth can grow up to 1cm and usually the komodo dragons tail is as long as its body, also it has a bright yellow forked tongue .

Right now I will tell you some interesting facts about the komodo dragon. The komodo dragon surprisingly is a very good swimmer to go from island to island in search of food, also the komodo dragon can eat 80% of its body weight in just one meal, crazy right. Also the komodo dragon has only killed a tiny 4 people since the 1970s
wow!

I hope you have learnt a thing or two about the largest and most ferocious lizard on the planet the komodo dragon .

swimming sports

Swimming sports!
By John Paul

The Connolly children were all excited for the day ahead of us ,Wednesday the
22nd of February. We were going to the amazing West Wave in Henderson
for the fantastic swimming sports. It was all an exciting day.

NON COMPETITIVE please come to the big blue pole.
First up water walk with Year 3 girls, Year 3 boys, Year 4 girls,
Year 4 boys and as you guessed it took a long time.  Finally it was us the
Year 5 boys. I carefully slipped into the pool. Once we were in the middle
of the pool the speaker shouted 3 2 1 go! I kicked as fast as my legs could carry me.
In seconds I was at the end. The person in the pool with me pushed me out of the
pool and I followed a lady to Mrs Hahn and I came . . . . . . 3RD.
Yes ! I was so happy. I never thought I could do it but I succeeded!

When I got out, I was chattering my head off and I really didn't want to come out
because it was cold I got out of the water and worst of all when everyone touched
me, it was freezing. Next up it was freestyle so I waited and waited until it was the
Year 5 boys’ turn. I got into the pool and I decided that I would use the board.
Once we were in the middle, I got ready …… and go! I kicked, I looked,
I used my hands and I came ….. 3rd again! But I was still very happy.

After that I was tired but it was fantastic!

Burning of the palms

Today Shrove Tuesday we burned the palms from last Palm
Sunday because we needed ashes for tomorrow’s
Ash Wednesday .So we lined up on the turf and in
case the flames spread we had a fire extinguisher.
We all waited for Father Bernard to come to burn the palms.
He came and we said a prayer then we watched the
palms burn .After that we went to our classroom .
I think Sharyn will bring the ashes to
Father Bernard to make it all proper
like for our forehead tomorrow .
